Welcome to the Elementary Special Education website!

My name is Julie Mies.  I have been teaching special education for 20 years.  I grew up in Northeast Minneapolis and started my college career at the University of Minnesota.  I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the U of MN.  After moving to this area, I wanted to pursue education and decided to return to college.  I attended Moorhead State University where I earned an Elementary Education Degree, along with a teaching license in Special Education K-12.  I continued graduate work; even as recently as last year, to further learn about the latest techniques, theories, strategies and curriculum.  
I hope your child has a great year learning with me!  I enjoy teaching using some ‘non-traditional’ ways, as well as traditional.  Your child will receive instruction from me that is tailored specific for their needs.  
I am available for any questions Monday-Friday from 8 to 3:45.  You may call me at the school or email.  We can also set up a meeting if you would prefer that.  I encourage open lines of communication throughout the year.
