Welcome to the Elementary Special Education website!

My name is Julie Mies.  I have been teaching special education for 17 years.  I grew up in Northeast Minneapolis and started my college career at the University of Minnesota.  I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the U of MN.  After moving to this area, I wanted to pursue education and decided to return to college.  I attended Moorhead State University where I earned an Education Degree, along with a teaching license in Special Education K-12.  I continued graduate work; even as recently as last year, to further learn about the latest techniques, theories, strategies and curriculum.
I hope your child has a great year learning with me!  I enjoy teaching using some 'non-traditional' ways, as well as traditional.  Your child will receive instruction from me that is tailored specific for their needs.
I am available for any questions Monday-Friday from 8 to 3:45.  You may call me at the school or email!  We can also set up a meeting if you would prefer that.  I encourage open lines of communication throughout the year.
This year will look different for all of us as we continue to work through the barriers of COVID-19.  We all need to be patient and have a positive outlook for the future.  Thank you for following our safety protocols and keeping our school as healthy as it can be!!  With this year and the different learning styles (in person, hybrid and distant learning), it can get confusing.  Please, please ask questions if you need clarification!  We are all learning this together.
